Privatizing air traffic controllers will fundamentally destablize air travel in the United States.

WASHINGTON – More than 130,000 Americans signed an online petition to Congress opposing the privatization of air-traffic controllers, two House Democrats and a coalition of consumer-advocacy groups announced Tuesday.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C. – both members of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee – announced the petition and the formation of a coalition opposed to shifting air-traffic controllers from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to a not-for-profit corporation, as key Republicans have proposed.

“The system that we have now under the current regulations has been a very strong, effective and efficient system,” Cummings said.
